How to get a tutor

  1. Contact the English At Large office by or by phone: 781-395-2374.
  2. Have an interview and take an English language test.

To be eligible for a tutor, you must

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Live or work in our 21-town service area.
  • Plan to live in the United States for at least three years.
  • Not attend any other program that receives money from the Massachusetts Department of Education.
  • Not have a degree from a United States college or university.
  • Not be pursuing a degree at any United States college or university.

English At Large has a long waiting list. Learners may need to wait between one to two years to have a tutor.
