Donate to the CARES Project: EAL’s Response to COVID-19

Serving Low-Level, Beginner Learners Impacted by COVID-19

Local immigrants who speak little to no English face tremendous challenges during these unprecedented times.  Today, Beginner Learners are at high-risk of suffering illness, loss, exploitation and isolation.  They do not have knowledge of local resource systems and culture and language are barriers that prevent them from asking for help. To respond to this real need across our service community, English At Large has developed the CARES Project.

The CARES Project will provide relevant learning materials to low-level Beginner English learners, to help them continue their studies.  Many of these learners were enrolled in our programs hosted on campus at Tufts and Brandeis, which ended in March.  Others are still connected with their tutors, but have limited access to technology to support their learning.  And still others have waited almost a year for a tutor, only to learn that they must continue to wait, until we can ensure their health and safety in a post COVID-19 world.  These are the learners that will be served through the EAL CARES Project.

With your support, and the support of our community, Beginner Learners will receive curriculum materials, a workbook and activity grid for independent study, with follow-up support provided by EAL volunteers.  Your donation provides the tools and connections they need to continue on their journey to a better life.

Each $60 donation connects one Beginner Learner with the opportunity to continue their studies.

Today, we are thinking of our learners, our volunteers, and our communities.  Together, we can ensure the health and safety of local immigrants, support their continued learning, and help make them feel safe and connected instead of frightened and alone. Your caring and commitment will make a difference.

Please give today to support the CARES Project.
